Moscow, June 1, Interfax – Russian security forces have killed islamists who were trained in Lebanon, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said.
"Among the bandits neutralized in North Caucasus in 2012, we have identified Russian citizens who completed sabotage training in the Lebanese Republic and took part in hostilities on the side of the international terrorist organization Fatah al-Islam," Patrushev said in an interview with Interfax.
"After returning to the Russian Federation with the aim of committing acts of sabotage and terrorism in Kabardino-Balkaria, they set up a group of radical Islam followers and maintained active contact with foreign representatives from international terrorist organizations, which funded their criminal activity," he said.
"One gang member, a Lebanese citizen Uheida Sulaiman Rusman (aka Abu Khalid) turned himself to the authorities this year," Patrushev said.
Three militants, who were members of a gang of Turkish mercenary Muhanned, were killed during a special operation in Dagestan in April 2012, he said. "They were involved in a whole host of terrorist crimes, killings of civilians and police officers," Patrushev said.
